Vermeij在Twitter上的一篇新帖文中表示，他最初觉得《侠盗猎车手3》中的火车旅程“很无聊”。他解释说，他最初考虑过让玩家跳过火车旅程直接到达下一站，但由于这会“造成串流问题”，所以这个想法行不通。于是，Vermeij决定让镜头在火车轨道附近的随机视角之间切换，以使旅程更有趣。之后，一位同事建议对汽车也采用类似的方法，于是，Rockstar团队当时发现这种电影镜头视角“意外地有趣”，标志性功能就此诞生。
Vermeij还透露，这个电影镜头视角在《侠盗猎车手：罪恶都市》（通常被认为是最好的GTA游戏之一）中完全没有改变，但在《侠盗猎车手：圣安地列斯》中被另一位Rockstar员工重新设计。一位粉丝甚至费力地从游戏的存档中删除了《侠盗猎车手3》中的电影镜头视角，以展示如果Vermeij没有开发这个标志性功能，旅程会是什么样子。Vermeij回应说，火车旅程的镜头视角会类似于驾驶汽车，镜头位置会在车厢上方略微靠后。
