Monster Hunter Wilds: Duration Revealed

Apr 25,25(11 months ago)

Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in Capcom's iconic series, has finally arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, following the monumental success of Monster Hunter World and its Iceborne expansion. As players dive into this new adventure, many are curious about the game's length and what to expect from its main story and postgame. Here, we'll explore the time it took different members of the IGN team to complete various aspects of the game, what they focused on, and their experiences in the postgame.

Tom Marks - Executive Reviews Editor, Games

I completed the main campaign of Monster Hunter Wilds in just under **15 hours**, marking the end of the Low Rank section. Unlike Monster Hunter Rise, where the first credits roll at roughly the halfway point, this is the actual conclusion of the story. However, the game doesn't end there. High Rank follows, offering a plethora of side quests and tougher challenges that took me an additional **15 hours** to complete, leading to the true endgame. During this time, I battled all available monsters, unlocked all initial systems and crafting options, and got introduced to the intriguing Artian weapon system. The streamlined grind allowed me to feel satisfied with my chosen weapons and armor set after just **five more hours**, although there's much more to explore with different weapon types and other content.

Casey DeFreitas - Deputy Editor, Guides

I finished the final "story" mission in High Rank after about **40 hours** total, with **22 hours** spent post-credits in Low Rank. My time might be slightly off due to menu idling for guide purposes. During Low Rank, I focused mainly on progressing through the story without delving deeply into the game's complex systems. I crafted what was necessary and moved forward without repeating hunts. In High Rank, I continued this approach but also engaged in optional monster hunts and multiplayer sessions, which are essential for unlocking further Story Missions.

I upgraded my weapon just once by hunting an extra Ajarakan, otherwise sticking to my makeshift gear to reach the end. If I had more time, I'd likely have spent around **60 hours** total, optimizing my armor and weapons. Postgame, I still have endemic life-catching, fishing, and six monster-hunting Side Missions left, along with at least one more optional quest to unlock. I'm excited to farm specific monsters for Talisman upgrades, craft new armor, and experiment with Artian weapons. I'll also enjoy replaying the story with friends to master new weapons, and I'm looking forward to upcoming event quests and title updates with new monsters.

Simon Cardy - Senior Editorial Producer

I completed Monster Hunter Wilds' main story in just under **16 hours**, which was surprisingly quick compared to my 25-hour journey in Monster Hunter World without reaching the end. As a relative newcomer to the series, I found the battles quite manageable, though the apex predators posed a slight challenge. The game's streamlined approach, especially in terms of elemental strengths, crafting, and tracking, made it more accessible for newcomers like me. However, the frequent cutscenes and monster battles pacing did give it a more cinematic feel, which, while enjoyable, might leave some traditional Monster Hunter elements for the post-game.

Jada Griffin - Community Lead

It took me about **20 hours** to see the initial credits, with most of my time spent on optional and side quests, and some dedicated to exploring the world of Wilds. I enjoyed discovering hidden paths, hunting endemic life, and optimizing my gameplay settings. Completing all High-rank missions and side quests took an additional **15 hours**, after which I've spent nearly **70 hours** in the post-credits, enjoying activities like hunting with friends, farming decorations, and pursuing monster crowns. I'm eagerly anticipating future title updates that will add more monsters to the game.

Ronny Barrier - Producer, Guides

I reached the first credits after about **20 hours**, focusing primarily on the main story with occasional diversions to craft appealing armor sets and experiment with various weapons, particularly the Switch Axe. Currently, I'm at **65 hours** and feel the credits mark more of a story turning point than an ending. There's still a lot to explore and hunt, and I'm excited about the postgame content, even if it means encountering monsters like Congalala again.
