ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance

To Enhance Game Stability and Localizations

The developers of ASTRA: Knights of Veda, FLINT, have decided to remove English dubbing from the game effective January 23, 2025, with the goal of enhancing "game stability and delivering higher-quality localizations." The announcement came on January 20, detailing a Language Support adjustment aimed at improving localizations and maintaining game stability.

Following the maintenance on January 23, support for languages including German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian will be discontinued. However, FLINT will continue to support Korean, English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian.

While English text support remains intact, the in-game English voiceovers will be removed. Post-maintenance, "countries outside of Korea will default to Japanese for in-game voices." FLINT has reassured players that this change will not impact their ability to communicate in the languages that were removed.

Despite potential fan concerns, FLINT is committed to "continuously improving services and experiences for our Masters of the Book."

Other Gacha Games That Have Removed English Voiceovers

FLINT joins a list of gacha game developers who have made similar decisions. For instance, Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone have also opted to reduce or eliminate English voice-over support.

In May 2024, Square Enix announced the removal of English voice-overs for new content in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing content will retain English voice-overs, but future additions will automatically use Japanese. This move was made to emphasize the Japanese language for future game content.

Aether Gazer's developers announced in February 2024 the complete removal of English voice-overs following the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update, citing financial difficulties. The decision was made to redirect resources towards enhancing gameplay, performance, and future content.

Snowbreak: Containment Zone followed suit in December 2023, deciding to remove English voice-overs after a thorough evaluation of player preferences and the overall gaming experience. From Version 1.4 onward, certain content will automatically switch to Japanese voice-overs.

These decisions by various developers highlight a focus on either catering to predominant language preferences or optimizing resource allocation. Prioritizing the language most players prefer ensures a more engaging experience, while reallocating resources helps sustain the game's longevity by enhancing the most valued aspects for players.
