Capcom Optimizes 'Monster Hunter Wilds,' Reducing GPU Specs
Capcom is actively enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance and aiming to reduce PC GPU requirements before its official release. This article delves into Capcom's optimization plans.
Capcom Optimizes Monster Hunter Wilds for Launch
Reducing GPU Demands on PC
On January 19th, 2025, Capcom's German Twitter (X) account announced performance improvements for Monster Hunter Wilds. A video showcased smoother gameplay on PS5, highlighting an improved "Prioritize Framerate" mode that boosts fps at the expense of some visual detail. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, with a focus on lowering GPU requirements. The tweet stated their intention to reduce the recommended GPU specifications.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could make the game playable on lower-end hardware, expanding its accessibility.
Furthermore, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help players determine optimal settings and compatibility. This should alleviate concerns about needing costly hardware upgrades. For more details on Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our related article.
Addressing Open Beta Concerns
The initial open beta test (October/November 2024) revealed performance issues, with some Steam users criticizing low-poly models and significant fps drops, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often compromised visual quality.
Capcom acknowledged these problems on November 1st, 2024, promising a fix for afterimage noise in the final release, which they stated would be significantly improved compared to the beta.
A second open beta test is scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam), featuring Gypceros and a new monster. Whether these recent performance updates will be included remains to be seen.
