Inzoi Dev Defends Sales as Key Metric Over Steam Stats
Krafton, publisher of inZOI, has responded to recent discussions about the game's declining Steam concurrent player numbers, emphasizing that sales figures are a more accurate performance metric for this single-player experience.
The visually striking Sims competitor debuted strongly on Steam, achieving an impressive all-time peak of 87,377 concurrent players. Krafton reported surpassing 1 million copies sold within its first week - becoming the fastest-selling title in the South Korean publisher's history. Within just 40 minutes of launch, inZOI topped Steam's Global Top Sellers list by revenue, with CEO CH Kim announcing plans to cultivate the property as a "long-term franchise IP."
However, inZOI's concurrent player figures have steadily decreased since launch, recently recording a 24-hour peak of just 1,477 players. As reported by TheGamer, the game's peak concurrents have now fallen below even The Sims 3 (released 16 years ago) on Steam.
When IGN requested comment, Krafton downplayed the relevance of Steam's concurrent player metrics for their single-player title. "inZOI continues demonstrating steady sales performance," the company stated. "For single-player games, major update sales figures provide better performance insights than concurrent player counts on Steam."
The publishing giant's statement reflects ongoing industry debates about player count obsession. In 2024, Pocketpair's community chief John "Bucky" Buckley warned that fixating on "dead game" narratives and player numbers harms both developers and gamers. Similarly, Helldivers 2 production director Alex Bolle (in April 2024) described Steam concurrents as merely "one metric among many."

Regarding inZOI's current reception, Steam reviews remain "Mostly Positive" overall though recent reviews shifted to "Mixed." Krafton emphasized their Early Access status in their statement:
"Early Access represents just the starting point for inZOI's evolution. Our development team prioritizes player feedback to enhance features, optimize performance, and deepen immersion. We appreciate our passionate community and will share significant content updates throughout the coming months."
The publisher also confirmed an August release for inZOI on Mac (via App Store and Steam), optimized for Apple Silicon with MetalFX and Core ML integration to match Windows version performance.
