Droid Gamers: What inspires your pixel sprites?

Ilsun: Goddess Order, a mobile action RPG, builds on the pixel art success of Crusaders Quest. Our high-quality pixel art aims for a console-like feel, emphasizing narrative. Inspiration comes from a vast well of gaming and storytelling experiences. Pixel art is about subtly conveying form and movement through tiny units; it's less about specific references and more about the cumulative impact of our experiences. Collaboration is key; the initial characters—Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan—were born from solo work but evolved through team discussions, shaping the game's art style. We constantly draw inspiration from each other, refining character concepts based on story and combat design input.

World-Building from the Ground Up

Droid Gamers: How do you approach world-building in a fantasy RPG?

Terron J.: Goddess Order's world sprang from its pixel art characters. Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan provided the foundation. We explored their personalities, motivations, and backstories, allowing their narratives to organically shape the game world. The characters' strength and stories informed the game's manual control emphasis and scenario writing, making the development process incredibly rewarding.

Designing Dynamic Combat

Droid Gamers: How do you design combat styles and animations?

Terron J.: Goddess Order's turn-based combat features three characters using link skills. Design begins with defining unique roles for each character within the battle formation—damage dealers, support, etc.—and ensuring their abilities synergize. We prioritize unique advantages and intuitive controls.

Ilsun: The art style reflects these roles. We consider 3D movement even within the 2D pixel art, creating dynamic battles. We use physical props to study realistic movements, resulting in original and visually striking combat animations.

Terron J.: Finally, technical optimization is crucial for smooth mobile gameplay, ensuring consistent performance across devices without sacrificing visual quality or cutscene immersion.
