"Ex-Bethesda Dev Anticipates Fallout 3 Remaster to Enhance 'Subpar' Gun Combat"

With the success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, fans are eagerly anticipating which Bethesda title will receive the remaster treatment next. Speculation is rife that Fallout 3 could be the next in line, especially following leaks from 2023. Bruce Nesmith, a designer on Fallout 3, has highlighted areas where Bethesda could enhance the game, particularly the gun combat, which he described as "not good" and in need of significant improvement.
In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith suggested that a Fallout 3 Remastered would align its shooting mechanics more closely with those seen in Fallout 4. He noted the substantial improvements made to gun combat in Fallout 4, Bethesda's first real foray into a shooter-style game with Fallout 3. Nesmith praised the advancements, indicating that similar enhancements could be expected in a Fallout 3 remaster.
Oblivion Remastered, crafted by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, has set a high bar with its array of visual and gameplay improvements. It boasts 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, alongside enhancements to leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. Additional new features include fresh dialogue, an enhanced third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. These changes have been well-received, with some fans even suggesting that Oblivion Remastered is more of a remake than a remaster. Bethesda has clarified its decision to opt for a remaster rather than a full remake.
Nesmith also indicated that Fallout 3 Remastered could see similar upgrades to those in Oblivion Remastered. He pointed out that Fallout 3's combat didn't compare well to other shooters of its time and expressed his anticipation for the integration of Fallout 4's combat improvements into a remastered version.
He further emphasized that Oblivion Remastered wasn't merely updated to match Skyrim from 2011 but has been elevated to surpass even the latest graphical updates of Skyrim. Nesmith went as far as to call Oblivion Remastered "Oblivion 2.0" due to its impressive enhancements.
Bethesda is currently juggling multiple projects, including The Elder Scrolls VI, potential Starfield expansions, ongoing work on Fallout 76, and the Fallout TV series, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. This lineup promises a thrilling few years for Bethesda fans.
