In an exclusive interview with PC Gamer’s Magazine Issue 405, as reported by Games Radar on February 10, 2025, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki unveiled a thrilling aspect of the game: the map will dynamically generate features such as volcanoes, forests, and swamps. This adds a fresh layer of challenge and excitement to every playthrough.

True to the Soulslike genre, Elden Ring Nightreign will not shy away from including environmental hazards like poison swamps, compelling players to adapt their strategies both in navigation and combat. Ishizaki elaborated that the game's map will undergo "large-scale changes to terrain," introducing elements like volcanoes, swamps, or forests, ensuring that each journey through the game world is unique.

This innovative approach is driven by the developers' vision of transforming the map into a "giant dungeon," offering players a new path to explore with each session. For example, navigating through forested areas might provide cover, but it also increases the risk as enemies can use the same advantage against players.

Ishizaki highlighted the strategic depth this adds: "Once you've made that choice, maybe you have an idea of how you want to strategize against that boss, and this might change how you approach the map. We wanted to offer players that agency, to decide 'I need to go after a poison weapon this time to face this boss.'"
