"Duskbloods: Play as Bloodsworn, Not Bloodborne 2"

FromSoftware, the mastermind behind Elden Ring, has announced their upcoming game, The Duskbloods, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct on April 2. Despite the focus on online multiplayer PvPvE, fans can rest assured that FromSoftware remains committed to their signature single-player games, as confirmed by Director Hidetaka Miyazaki.
FromSoftware Will Continue To Create Single-Player Focused Games
The Duskbloods Director on Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice Blog

In an insightful post on Nintendo’s new insider scoop blog, Creator’s Voice, on April 4, Miyazaki addressed the company's future direction. He emphasized that while The Duskbloods is an online multiplayer title, FromSoftware's dedication to single-player experiences remains unwavering. Miyazaki stated, "As a side note, please allow me to address one thing. As previously mentioned, this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn’t mean that we as a company have decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward." He further added, "The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring was also announced, and we still intend to actively develop single-player focused games such as this that embrace our more traditional style."
The Importance of Blood in The Duskbloods

Miyazaki delved into the thematic core of The Duskbloods, highlighting the concept of blood. Players will embody "Bloodsworn," individuals endowed with superhuman abilities derived from special blood. Though reminiscent of vampires, Miyazaki clarified that these characters would not be portrayed as traditional horror figures. The narrative revolves around the pursuit of "The First Blood," which emerges during "The Twilight of Humanity," an event spanning various eras and locales.

The game's settings range from Gothic and Victorian landscapes to scenes depicting the end of the early modern period, such as a train traversing a historical setting seen in the trailer. Miyazaki explained that blood in The Duskbloods serves as a metaphor, symbolizing the game’s themes of history, power, fate, and transcending human limitations.
Wide Variety of Characters and Online Multiplayer

The Duskbloods offers a diverse array of characters, each with unique designs and personalities. Miyazaki confirmed over a dozen characters available for selection and customization. He noted, "I think there are a lot of unique elements to the character designs and the weapons they use, so hopefully players can find one or two favorites among them."
At the game's hub, players can choose and customize their characters before entering online multiplayer sessions that support up to 8 players. After matches, players return to the hub to collect rewards, primarily character customizations.

Matches typically end when one player remains standing, though other victory conditions exist, such as defeating a formidable boss or meeting specific challenges. Miyazaki emphasized, "Regardless of whether it’s PvP or PvE, the idea is to provide players with an experience that allows them to learn and hone their skills as they play. We’ve therefore designed the PvE boss encounters to present a tough challenge and a sense of accomplishment upon defeating them."

Additionally, The Duskbloods introduces "roles" that players can adopt, each with unique responsibilities and objectives. Roles like "Destined Rivals" and "Destined Companion" add layers of engagement and narrative depth. Miyazaki explained, "Roles can be assigned to any character via blood customization, allowing players to enjoy role-playing in a literal sense and hopefully adding to the drama of these engagements."
The Creator’s Voice provided key insights into FromSoftware’s ambitious project for the Nintendo Switch 2. With The Duskbloods set for release in 2026, fans can look forward to further announcements. To stay updated on this exciting title, continue following our coverage.
