Warner Bros.' Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Shuts Down
Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline on October 21st, 2024.
While the exact reasons for the shutdown remain undisclosed, the recent closure of NetherRealm's mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.
The status of in-game purchases remains unclear. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have yet to comment on potential refunds for in-game currency and items, promising further updates soon. Players are advised to monitor the official X (formerly Twitter) account for announcements regarding refunds.
Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the Mortal Kombat universe. Unlike previous entries, it blended action-adventure RPG elements with a cinematic storyline, drawing comparisons to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game centered on Raiden and the player's team thwarting the fallen Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
