Nonograms, also called Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, or Paint by Numbers, are logic-based picture puzzles where grid cells are filled or left empty following numerical clues to uncover hidden images. These numbers represent continuous blocks of filled squares separated by at least one blank space. For instance, a clue like "4 8 3" indicates consecutive groups of four, eight, and three filled squares in that exact order.

Solving involves deducing which cells to fill (boxes) and which to leave empty (spaces). Identifying spaces is just as crucial as marking boxes, as they help narrow down possible clue positions. Players often use dots or crosses to denote confirmed empty cells.
