One key change is the three-Age campaign structure (Antiquity, Exploration, Modern). Each Age's completion triggers a simultaneous Age Transition for all players, involving civilization selection, Legacy retention, and world evolution—a novel feature in the Civilization series.

Despite Zelnick's confidence, Firaxis faces the challenge of improving player sentiment, especially on Steam. The platform's user review rating significantly impacts a game's visibility and overall success. Firaxis has already pledged to address UI concerns, introduce team-based multiplayer, and expand map diversity.
