Studio Hit by Fallout after 'Suicide Squad' Flop
Rocksteady Studios, the creator of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, announced further layoffs in late 2024, impacting programmers, artists, and testers. This follows September's layoffs, which halved the testing team's size.
The studio faced significant hurdles in 2024, struggling to maintain the game's viability amidst poor reception and reported losses of approximately $200 million for Warner Bros. No further updates are planned for 2025, though servers will remain active.
These cuts weren't isolated to Rocksteady; Games Montreal, another Warner Bros. studio, also experienced layoffs, losing 99 employees.
The game's early access release exacerbated the situation. Players encountered numerous bugs, including server outages and a major plot spoiler. Negative reviews from prominent gaming publications and widespread gameplay criticism led to a massive 791% surge in refund requests, according to McLuck analytics.
Rocksteady's future projects remain unannounced.
