Sony Wants to Buy Kadokawa and Their Employees Are Thrilled
Sony's Planned Acquisition of Kadokawa: Employee Enthusiasm Despite Potential Loss of Independence

Sony's confirmed bid to acquire Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa has sparked mixed reactions, with Kadokawa employees expressing surprising optimism despite the potential loss of autonomy. While negotiations are ongoing, the acquisition's implications are being closely analyzed.
A Strategic Move for Sony, Less So for Kadokawa?

Economic analyst Takahiro Suzuki suggests the deal benefits Sony more than Kadokawa. Sony's shift towards entertainment necessitates a stronger IP portfolio, a weakness the acquisition aims to address. Kadokawa's extensive library, boasting titles like Oshi no Ko, Dungeon Meshi, and Elden Ring, makes it an attractive target. However, this comes at the cost of Kadokawa's independence, potentially leading to stricter management and scrutiny of projects not directly contributing to IP development.
Kadokawa Employees Welcome the Change

Despite the potential drawbacks, many Kadokawa employees reportedly view the acquisition favorably. Interviews suggest a positive sentiment, with the prevailing opinion being "Why not Sony?" This positive reception is partly attributed to dissatisfaction with the current leadership under Takeshi Natsuno.
The June cyberattack by the BlackSuit hacking group, resulting in a massive data breach including sensitive employee information, highlighted perceived shortcomings in Natsuno's crisis management. This incident fueled employee discontent and contributed to the welcoming attitude towards a potential Sony takeover, with many hoping for a change in leadership.
