Konami made a major announcement during its Konami Press Start Live event: a full remake of the original Silent Hill game.

The Silent Hill remake is currently in development by Bloober Team, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake.

Earlier this year in February, Bloober Team revealed its partnership with Konami to develop a new game based on the publisher's intellectual property, following the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake. We now know this project is a reimagining of the first Silent Hill title.

Originally released in 1999 for PlayStation, Silent Hill emerged as Konami's answer to Resident Evil. The groundbreaking horror title introduced the series' signature fog-drenched visuals, third-person perspective, and the eerie setting of Silent Hill itself. Players follow protagonist Harry Mason as he searches for his missing adopted daughter Cheryl, encountering terrifying horrors along the way.

With 2 million copies sold, the Silent Hill 2 remake's commercial success naturally led Konami to approve another series remake. Choosing to revisit the inaugural title next was hardly surprising. In an IGN poll, more than 61% of 20,000 participants voted for a remake of the original Silent Hill.

When Konami, one of gaming's most legendary names, wanted to revitalize its iconic Silent Hill franchise, they chose Bloober Team for our horror expertise and atmospheric storytelling. Our 2021 partnership led to the announcement of the Silent Hill 2 remake during the 2022 Silent Hill Transmission livestream. The project would recreate what many consider the finest psychological horror game ever made.

The remake's success demonstrated our ability to preserve the original's atmosphere while implementing meaningful innovations. Earning an 86/100 on Metacritic and 88/100 on OpenCritic, plus awards including IGN Japan's Game of the Year 2024 and IGN Community's Best Horror Game, validated our approach.

This achievement established the trust needed for our next collaborative project with Konami, aligning with Bloober Team's strategy to expand our first-party development capabilities.

Our partnership with Konami continues to yield incredible results. While we can't share specifics yet, we're confident fans will be thrilled with what we're creating together. When the time comes, we look forward to revealing something truly special.

The Silent Hill 2 remake launched on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on October 8, 2024 (Xbox Series X/S availability remains unconfirmed) and surpassed 1 million sales within days. This potentially makes it the fastest-selling Silent Hill title, though Konami hasn't officially confirmed the record.

IGN's Silent Hill 2 remake review awarded it 8/10, praising it as "an excellent way to experience one of survival horror's most terrifying locations."

The remake's success has clearly accelerated Konami's franchise plans, with multiple projects underway including Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall. The newly announced remake joins these upcoming titles, along with a film adaptation of Silent Hill 2 currently in production.
