Exploring the World of Miraland

The project began in December 2019, with a vision of Nikki freely exploring a vast, open world. The initial team worked in secrecy, laying the groundwork for over a year before expanding recruitment. Game designer Sha Dingyu describes the unique challenge of blending the established Nikki dress-up mechanics with open-world gameplay, a process that involved building a completely new framework.

This ambitious project marks the fifth installment in the Nikki series, and the first to launch on PC and consoles alongside mobile. The team chose to push technological boundaries rather than simply creating another mobile game, reflecting a commitment to innovation and evolution of the Nikki IP. This dedication is exemplified by the producer's creation of a clay model of the Grand Millewish Tree, a testament to the passion driving the project. The documentary showcases the vibrant world of Miraland, including the Grand Millewish Tree and its inhabitants, emphasizing the lifelike routines of the NPCs, even during active quests. Game designer Xiao Li highlights this dynamic element as a key design achievement.

A Team of Industry Titans

The game's stunning visuals are a result of both the core Nikki team's experience and the addition of international talent. Kentaro "Tomiken" Tominaga, Lead Sub Director, previously worked on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, while concept artist Andrzej Dybowski contributed his expertise from The Witcher 3.
