TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot Required for Call of Duty Black Ops 7

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 developer Activision has announced that it will be incorporating TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) and Secure Boot in its future games. In a post on the official Call of Duty website published on August 6, TeamRicochet, the anti-cheat program for CoD, outlined its strategies to tackle cheaters.

As described on the Activision support FAQs page, TPM 2.0 is "a hardware-based security technology used on Windows PCs." Secure Boot is another security feature that ensures only trusted software runs on players' computers.

These features are also used by other popular multiplayer games, such as the upcoming Battlefield 6 and Riot Games' Valorant, to prevent hackers from using cheats that ruin the community experience, like aimbots and wallhacks.

This new measure by Activision is part of a "gradual implementation" that aligns with the launch of Season 05 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone. According to Team Ricochet, these changes are not yet required for either title, but players will be notified when they become mandatory, especially upon the release of Black Ops 7.

They stated, "These hardware-level protections are a crucial part of our anti-cheat efforts, and we’re asking all players to comply now." Instructions on how to set up these systems can be found in Activision’s Player Support article.

Older Systems Will Be Excluded

Although these requirements are not yet in effect for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, they will be mandatory for Black Ops 7. Unfortunately, this means that older systems may not support Black Ops 7, as TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are only available on PCs with 8th Generation Intel processors and AMD Ryzen 2000 (Zen+) or newer.

Meanwhile, there have been unverified claims that these features could affect PC performance, which Activision has addressed by stating, "These features perform checks during system and game startup but remain inactive while you play."

Despite this, there have been no major negative reactions to the requirement as of now, especially since Battlefield 6 has had a positive open beta period that also requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.
