WoW: Season of Discovery Players Rediscover Notorious Bug From 2005

World of Warcraft's Corrupted Blood Bug Returns in Season of Discovery

The infamous Corrupted Blood incident from World of Warcraft's history has unexpectedly reappeared in the Season of Discovery servers. Players have shared videos showing the deadly plague spreading through major cities, mirroring the chaos of the original 2005 event. While some players find the situation humorous, others worry about the potential impact on Hardcore realms, where death is permanent.

The source of the problem lies within the Zul'Gurub raid, reintroduced in Phase 5 of Season of Discovery. This 20-player instance, originally part of Patch 1.7 (Rise of the Blood God) in 2005, features Hakkar the Soulflayer, whose Corrupted Blood spell deals damage over time and spreads to nearby players. Normally, this effect is manageable with sufficient healing, but in 2005, players exploited the mechanics to spread the plague far beyond the raid, causing widespread disruption.

A recent video on r/classicwow, posted by Lightstruckx, shows the debuff spreading rapidly in Stormwind City's Trade District. The footage vividly recalls the original Corrupted Blood incident, with players using healing spells to survive as others succumb to the rapidly spreading plague. This unintentional recreation highlights the enduring legacy of the original bug.

Concerns for Hardcore Realms

The resurgence of Corrupted Blood has sparked debate among players. Some attribute it to unresolved issues, while others express serious concerns about its potential misuse in the Hardcore mode. The permanent death mechanic of Classic Hardcore makes this a significantly more serious issue than in the standard Season of Discovery servers.

Despite past attempts to address the issue, the Corrupted Blood incident continues to plague World of Warcraft. With Phase 7 of Season of Discovery slated for early 2025, the question remains: when will Blizzard finally resolve this recurring problem?
