A planned paid DLC for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy has been canceled, as reported by Bloomberg. According to their sources, Warner Bros. intended to launch a story expansion for the Harry Potter-themed game this year, coinciding with the release of a "Definitive Edition." However, the project was abruptly canceled this week. Bloomberg suggests that the decision stemmed from concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered." Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment on the matter.

This cancellation comes at a time when Warner Bros. is undergoing significant restructuring within its gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its anticipated Wonder Woman game and shut down the development studio, Monolith Productions, responsible for it. Additionally, WB San Diego and the studio behind MultiVersus, Player First Games, were also closed. Last September, Warner Bros. conducted layoffs at Rocksteady Studios.

Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has declared that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," focusing on fewer but larger franchises. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
