World of Warcraft's Festive Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Celebration

World of Warcraft (WoW) and PlatinumWoW have collaborated on a captivating lore video unveiling the rich history behind the in-game Feast of Winter Veil, WoW's equivalent of Christmas. This annual event features unique rewards and activities, with new additions each year.

The video delves into the holiday's origins, exploring various perspectives: the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter, a colossal Titan-forged being; the Tauren's traditions of spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother; and the modern-day commercialization spearheaded by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.

Metzen the Reindeer Takes Center Stage

No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after Chris Metzen, a prominent figure in Warcraft's development. This unfortunate reindeer has faced three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the current version. The video humorously concludes with Metzen expressing gratitude in Thrall's voice (fittingly, as Thrall is voiced by Metzen himself).

A Fruitful Collaboration

This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge (Wrath of the Lich King Classic), World Trees and Blackrock Depths (modern WoW), and support videos for events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. Blizzard's recent partnerships with content creators, including Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, demonstrate a commitment to diverse and engaging content.

Winter Veil Festivities Continue

Players can still participate in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5, 2024. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift – a tradition continued from last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy.
