Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Gets the Big-Screen Treatment

At CES 2025, Sony unveiled plans for a film adaptation of its highly successful game, Helldivers 2. The movie will be a collaborative effort between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures.

Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the exciting announcement, stating, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film based on our incredibly popular Helldivers 2 game." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles brought to life on the silver screen.

Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2 is a captivating shooter game drawing inspiration from the classic Star Troopers franchise. The game achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures—the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie.

Qizilbash offered a preliminary glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic portrayal."
