We aimed to ensure that many decks could access this crucial aspect of gameplay. These creatures enable players to build their board while simultaneously addressing their mana needs, unlike other designs like tapped lands, which only contribute to mana and might cause you to fall behind."

Senior Worldbuilding Art Director Forrest Schehl acknowledges this feedback but points out that the core vision for Tarkir was set long before recent releases: "The top-level pitch for Tarkir was established well before *Murders at Karlov Manor* and subsequent sets. We aimed to blend Dragons and Clans in a novel way, with Dragonstorms playing a pivotal role in shaping our approach. The pressure to do justice to this beloved plane was immense from the start, and we were committed to delivering an authentic and meaningful expansion."
