How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To romance Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must first break the Fire Seal in the mines. Located on Floor 60, the seal requires four specific items for the offering: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing the offering, a cutscene unfolds where the Mines Priestess warns the farmer to leave or face being sealed. As the farmer's health depletes, Caldarus dramatically appears, transforming into his human form, granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell, and then retreating to the Deep Woods.

In his human form, you can interact with Caldarus, giving him gifts and engaging in daily conversations just as you would with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can be found exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. To unlock this area permanently on your map, you'll need to use the Dragon’s Breath spell.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking Caldarus as a romanceable character with the March 2025 update, he starts with a heart level of six, which is currently the cap. As a result, there are no additional heart events available for Caldarus at this time, though future updates may introduce more.

Currently, there are only a few cutscenes involving Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing Mistria’s magic system and mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves the farmer from being sealed, revealing his human form before retreating to recover in the Deep Woods. Both scenes are part of the natural story progression.

With the March 2025 update, you can also trigger a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, which takes place on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, offering a chance to take any romanceable NPC with four or more hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts at six hearts, you can automatically invite him. To attend the festival with Caldarus, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterward to confirm your readiness. This will initiate a cutscene of your date.

During the date at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and discusses the stars and the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. The conversation delves into existential topics about soul connections and the necessity of villains in stories. He muses about past lives and, feeling fatigued, invites you to spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from his temple.
