If you're new to the world of model building, it can feel like a daunting task to figure out where to begin. With a century's worth of injection-molded plastic kits available, ranging from military vehicles to anime robots and even everyday household objects, the possibilities seem endless. When you see the incredible creations of experienced builders, it might feel like you'd need an entire workshop, the precision of a surgeon, and years of practice to create something worthwhile. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

To make this hobby more approachable, I’ve compiled a list of kits that are perfect for beginners. Many of these recommendations are based on personal experience. At the top, you'll find kits that require no glue, paint, or additional supplies, but scroll down for more advanced options if you're ready to dive deeper. Further down, you'll find essential tools and supplies for model kits, along with where to purchase these fantastic LEGO alternatives.

No Paint? No Glue? No Problem!

For a long time, model kits required gluing and painting to assemble. Fortunately, that’s changed. Most manufacturers now offer entry-level kits that are pre-colored and snap together effortlessly. While some entry-level kits are so simplified they barely qualify as traditional model kits, many still provide a satisfying challenge without the mess of paint and glue. For instance, Gundam kits are a great starting point for beginners who love giant robots.
