FromSoftware has revealed new details about its Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods. The collaboration with Nintendo has influenced not only the game’s design but also the creation of its hub area keeper, a character infused with an unexpected charm.

The Switch 2 Direct trailer concluded with a glimpse of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, staring directly at the camera. Fans curious about this creature’s role now know it serves as the game’s hub companion.

“This character mirrors the role of the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series, staying in the hub to offer players advice and support,” director Hidetaka Miyazaki shared in a Nintendo interview.

“We embraced a touch of Nintendo’s playful spirit in this partnership,” he added.

When pressed on what he meant, Miyazaki explained, “We opted for something charming this time. Though, I should note, this character is actually an elderly figure (laughter).”

FromSoftware’s hub characters, like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll, have long been vital to players’ journeys, offering guidance and strength.

In a PvPvE title like The Duskbloods, the winged rat’s role remains intriguing. Miyazaki hinted that FromSoftware has explored “fresh and creative concepts,” promising surprises when the game launches on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
