"Super Mario World" Sequel Title Briefly Appears in NBCUniversal Press Release
It seems we might have a sneak peek at the title of the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, thanks to a premature reveal in an NBCUniversal press release. The internet quickly caught wind of the press release that highlighted NBCUniversal's upcoming offerings for its Upfront Showcase. Among the listed films was "Super Mario World," slated to be released on Peacock, Universal Pictures and Illumination's streaming service.
However, the excitement was short-lived as Universal promptly edited the press release to exclude any reference to Mario. A tweet from Wario64 captured the change, showing the removal of "Super Mario World" from the announcement.

The original press release grouped "Super Mario World" with "Shrek" and "Minions," which are confirmed to be Shrek 5 and Minions 3, respectively. This suggests that "Super Mario World" might be a placeholder or working title for the Mario movie sequel, rather than its final name. It's interesting to note that while Shrek 5 and Minions 3 use their franchise names without numbering, "Super Mario World" is a more specific title, hinting at a potential direction for the sequel.
Given that "Super Mario World" is more descriptive than a generic title like "Super Mario" or "Super Mario Bros.," it's worth considering as a potential name for the next film. The title could imply a focus on the expansive world of Mario, resonating well with fans eager for more adventures in this beloved universe.
