The trailer showcased numerous characters, most appearing as expected. However, Donkey Kong's noticeably different design stood out. His appearance has remained consistent for years, featuring in titles like Mario Kart 8, Mario Tennis, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. The movie, however, introduced a revamped look, which Nintendo now seems to be integrating into its games.

The Mario Kart 9 trailer offered only fleeting glimpses of Donkey Kong, making a detailed comparison challenging. Nevertheless, the differences are already apparent.

A more thorough comparison is anticipated during April's Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct. The console reveal trailer hinted at the Switch 2's features, emphasizing its visual appeal. Backwards compatibility, new Joy-Con buttons, and the potential use of the controller as a mouse were confirmed.
