Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in Shawn Levy's Star Wars Film

Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool & Wolverine, is reportedly heading to a galaxy far, far away, bringing Ryan Gosling along. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Gosling is in negotiations to star in Levy's upcoming Star Wars film. Levy has been developing this project since 2022, with a script finalized last year. He's collaborating once again with Jonathan Tropper, screenwriter of This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project.

Plot details remain tightly under wraps. The only confirmed information is that the film is unrelated to the Skywalker Saga and intended as a standalone movie, ruling out a trilogy.

Gosling's potential involvement has accelerated the project. While Levy was previously attached to a boy band film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, THR suggests that Gosling's confirmation would prioritize the Star Wars movie, pushing production to commence this fall.

The Star Wars franchise is currently undergoing a transition. Following the cancellation of The Acolyte, Disney+ recently concluded its Skeleton Crew series. On the film front, Dave Filoni's Mandalorian and Grogu movie completed filming in December, slated for a May 22, 2026 release. A new trilogy focusing on Daisy Ridley's Rey is also in the works.
