Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation

Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited fan speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance and subsequent confirmation for a new Star Wars film.

Isaac's past comments regarding a Star Wars return have been inconsistent. While initially expressing reluctance, stating in 2020 that he'd only return for "another house or something," he later told Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything," indicating a shift in his perspective.

His past criticisms of Disney, particularly regarding the rejection of a romantic storyline between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character), are well-documented. Boyega also voiced past frustrations with Disney and the franchise, though he too has expressed openness to future roles.

The possibility of a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – in the upcoming Rey-centric film is a major driver of the current speculation. This film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, will focus on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already publicly expressed her hope for Boyega's involvement.

The inclusion of Poe would complete the core trio's return. However, definitive answers regarding Isaac's role remain elusive. The repeated delays of several announced Star Wars films, including the Rey film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, contribute to the uncertainty. The earliest potential release date for the Rey film is now December 17, 2027.
