Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has poured cold water on hopes of a speedy release for the highly anticipated third installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse. He revealed he hasn't even begun recording his lines yet.

Speaking to Decider, Jerome confirmed that production on the presumed finale hasn't commenced, with several aspects still "being figured out." This news, while disappointing for eager fans, isn't entirely unexpected, given the five-year gap between the first and second films.

"No, I wish," Jerome responded when asked about production starting. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things are being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in the second film was relatively small, his part in the third is expected to be significantly larger. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse's ending: He's poised to play the main antagonist. Jerome portrays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, a version of Miles who appears at the film's conclusion, not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.

This Miles's journey diverges sharply from the protagonist's. The radioactive spider destined to bite the main Miles instead bites this alternate version, altering his destiny. Consequently, Miles G. Morales never becomes Spider-Man, and following the death of his universe's Peter Parker, New York falls under the control of supervillains—with him among their ranks.

The unfolding of this storyline, and its collision with the main Miles's journey as Spider-Man, will likely form the core of Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans will have to exercise patience, as the film isn't anticipated before 2026 at the earliest, according to Deadline. A release mirroring the gap between the previous films would push it to 2028.
