"Space Marine 2 Devs' April Fool's Joke Sparks Fan Excitement"
April 1 has come and gone, marking another year of the video game industry's playful April Fool's Day antics. Yet, the clever jest from the developers of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 might just linger in gamers' memories a bit longer.
On April 1, Focus Entertainment, the publisher behind Space Marine 2, announced the release of a new Chaplain class as DLC. "In story mode, swap out Titus for The Chaplain and experience the game as a true Codex-compliant Ultramarine," they stated, barely containing their amusement. This fictitious 'DLC' promised a new playable character for the story mode, complete with an 'Enhanced Dialogue System.' Every five minutes, the Chaplain would remind his comrades that "the Codex Astartes does not support this action," and threaten to report them to the Inquisition.
The Chaplain's special ability, dubbed Discipline, would supposedly allow him to instantly report any deviation from the Codex Astartes, granting a 5% discipline bonus but at the cost of a -20% brotherhood bonus. This playful addition tapped into the character of Chaplain Quintus from the game's campaign, who watches protagonist Titus with a hawkish suspicion for any signs of heresy.

The humor stems from Quintus's role in the game, where he constantly monitors Titus for any unorthodox behavior during the fight against the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons. This has made the Chaplain a meme within the Space Marine community, and the April Fool's Day prank cleverly played on this notoriety. However, some fans expressed genuine interest in seeing the Chaplain as a playable character, perhaps as a warrior-priest dedicated to the Emperor's worship.
"This would actually go hard if this was real," commented ResidentDrama9739 on the Space Marine subreddit, sparking enthusiastic discussions about potential gameplay features for the Chaplain.
Interestingly, Space Marine 2 is indeed set to introduce a new class soon, though details remain under wraps. Speculation abounds, with many hoping for an Apothecary or even a Librarian with warp-powered abilities. The Chaplain's humorous spotlight might not preclude his inclusion in future updates.
Despite the recent announcement of Space Marine 3's development, Space Marine 2 continues to evolve with a packed year one roadmap. Patch 7 is slated for mid-April, and players can look forward to a new class, additional PvE operations, and new melee weapons in the coming months.
