Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see a significant change to their game library as 22 titles are set to be removed on May 20, including high-profile games like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation platforms, offering a range of benefits such as free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. For Extra and Premium members, it also includes access to a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games.

As reported by Push Square, the upcoming removal of these 22 games from the PS Plus Premium library is noteworthy, especially since it includes two significant first-party PS3 titles, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, which are set to leave the service.

The removal of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 is particularly significant because these games are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. This makes the PS Plus Premium streaming service the final platform where they can be played, unless you own both games and a functional PS3. Both titles were added to the library towards the end of 2024 and are being removed less than a year later.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, is known for its alternate history first-person shooter gameplay. Following the success of the Ratchet and Clank series, Insomniac released three Resistance games for the PS3 before shifting focus to other projects such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles.

While it's rare for Sony to remove its first-party titles from PS Plus, it has happened before, as seen with the unexpected removal of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West in August 2024. However, those games remained available for purchase, unlike Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, which will no longer be accessible on modern consoles.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the PS4 game InFamous: Second Son is also set to leave PS Plus.

Insomniac's Resistance series has been inactive for some time. In February, Insomniac's founder and outgoing president, Ted Price, disclosed efforts to develop Resistance 4, which unfortunately did not come to fruition. Like Guerrilla's Killzone series, Resistance has been sidelined.
