The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, "Grand Taking Ages," have successfully launched the game on Steam after its removal from the PlayStation Store. Initially released on PlayStation with a May 2025 release date, the game, a parody management simulator about running a game development studio, was swiftly removed by Sony.

Developer Violarte stated that significant adjustments were made to secure Steam approval. These changes included removing the "VI" from the title, revising the logo and descriptions, and updating the visuals to better distinguish the game from Rockstar's GTA 6. While the game still utilizes AI-generated assets, Violarte disclosed this usage, complying with Steam's AI guidelines. The updated Steam page description reads:

Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of "creative" deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!

Violarte adopted a proactive approach with Valve, engaging with their team before submission to ensure compliance with their policies, unlike their previous interaction with Sony. They cite other projects, such as "Grand Theft Hamlet," as examples of successful GTA parodies.

Despite the Steam success, Violarte aims to reinstate "Grand Taking Ages" on the PlayStation Store, arguing the modifications made should alleviate Sony's concerns. They've submitted a request to Sony, highlighting Valve's approval as evidence of the game's updated compliance.

The incident highlights the contrasting approaches of Sony and Valve towards content curation. While Sony's stricter policies led to the game's removal, Steam's more open platform readily accepted the revised version. The increasing use of AI in game development, as demonstrated by "Grand Taking Ages," further complicates the issue of content moderation across various platforms. Rockstar's GTA 6, meanwhile, remains slated for a fall 2025 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
