Largest Roster From The Series Ever
Sega and Sonic Team are collaborating to bring Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to life, potentially boasting the largest character roster in the series. In a PlayStation.blog post dated February 12, 2025, Thalia Piedra, Sega of America's Associate PR Manager, shared insights into the game's new mechanics and features. The game is set to launch with 23 characters, with more to be added post-release.
The reveal trailer showcased a variety of beloved characters, including Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Jet, Wave, and Storm from Sonic Riders, as well as Zavok and Zazz from the Deadly Six. Team Dark members Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega, alongside Dr. Eggman and his creations Egg Pawn and Metal Sonic, also make an appearance. The Chaotix team, featuring Vector, Charmy, and Espio, rounds out the lineup with Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big also joining the race.
Travel Rings Will Transport Characters To Different CrossWorlds
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduces a groundbreaking gameplay mechanic with Travel Rings, which transport racers to different worlds in real-time. According to Thalia Piedra, these rings will dramatically alter the race, shifting players from one world to another, each offering a theme park-like experience with surprises like large monsters, engaging obstacles, and stunning scenery.
The game will feature dynamic tracks inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, ensuring each lap brings a fresh challenge. Players can expect 24 main tracks and 15 unique CrossWorlds to explore.
Customization, Extreme Gear, Gadgets, and More!
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers unprecedented vehicle customization options, as highlighted in a Twitter (X) post from the game's official account on February 17, 2025. Players can personalize their vehicles extensively, from changing front and rear parts, wheels, and deep color customization of the body, tires, cockpit, and overall glow.
Additionally, the game introduces Gadgets, allowing players to fine-tune their racing style with 23 different power-up items. The inclusion of 45 unique vehicles, including the return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders, promises a diverse and thrilling racing experience. Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Creative Officer, emphasized that this game is a culmination of all the Sonic Racing series to date.

Fans eager to get a taste of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds can register for the upcoming closed network test. Registration opened on February 12, 2025, and will close on February 19, 2025. The playtest will run from February 21, 2025, to February 24, 2025, and is exclusively available on PlayStation 5.
