Ubisoft is setting sail with ambitious plans for Skull and Bones Year 2, aiming to make it the most expansive year yet for the pirate-themed multiplayer game. The excitement stems from a host of major content additions, including new modes, ships, a legendary Kraken, and the long-awaited feature of land combat.

During a special Year 2 showcase that aired yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled a treasure trove of updates. The spotlight was on Season 3: Guts and Glory, scheduled for this fall, which introduces the much-anticipated land combat. Players will finally be able to step off their ships and engage in sword fights and gun battles on land. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will venture onto beaches and into caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse into what this land-based action will look like, though full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat is the headline feature of Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed plenty more to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, introducing an item ascension feature to boost loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the Death Tides PvP mode for team-based action. Season 2: Oaths of War, set to release in the summer of 2025, will bring Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, slated for winter, will feature the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

For those eager to dive into the pirate life, Ubisoft is offering a free weekend from April 17 to 21. This is the perfect opportunity to experience the PvP action firsthand and possibly purchase the game at a discounted rate (though the exact discount is yet to be disclosed).

Skull and Bones initially launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has not shared specific sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after the game's release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
