Matthew "Leth" Griffin, Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR lead, confirmed on X that Silksong is real and in active development. His statement addressed a fan’s plea for reassurance about the long-awaited sequel’s progress.

The buzz began when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his X profile picture to a cake, prompting fans to speculate about a Silksong announcement or even an ARG tied to the Nintendo Switch 2. YouTuber fireb0rn contacted Griffin to verify, only to learn the cake was merely a playful, unrelated change. "Apologies for the confusion. The cake meant nothing," fireb0rn shared on X.

Despite the mix-up, Griffin reignited excitement by reaffirming, "The game is real, progressing, and will release." This marks Team Cherry’s first update on Silksong in over a year, offering hope to eager fans.

Silksong’s Long Development Journey

Unveiled in February 2019 with an initial release target of early 2023, Silksong’s launch was delayed in May 2023 as Team Cherry noted the project’s expanded scope required further refinement. The game promises a new kingdom, nearly 150 unique enemies, and a challenging Silk Soul mode. Nearly two years after the delay, this brief update breaks the studio’s silence.
