"Silent Hill f: First Konami Horror Game Rated 18+ in Japan"

May 21,25(9 months ago)

Silent Hill f marks a significant milestone as the first game in the Silent Hill series to receive an 18+ rating certification in Japan. This was evident at the start of the Japanese-language reveal trailer, which debuted last night. The game is rated Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan. It's important to note that these ratings may change as the game is still under active development. As highlighted by Automaton, previous entries like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room were rated CERO:C, suitable for individuals aged 15 and above. Other games in the series developed outside Japan typically received CERO:C or CERO:D ratings, the latter for those 17 and older. Notably, even the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team, which has a mature (17+) rating in Western countries, retains a CERO:C rating in Japan.

Last night, Konami provided updates during the Silent Hill Transmission, their online presentation focused solely on Silent Hill f. This marks the first mainline entry in the acclaimed horror franchise in 13 years since its announcement in 2022. Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f follows the story of Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal and familial pressures. The narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, known for the When They Cry visual novel series.

The reveal trailer showcases Hinako in various states of distress, visibly covered in blood and wounds, with her school uniform tattered. While the trailer primarily featured cutscenes, it offered a glimpse into the game's setting, monster designs, and what appears to be an Otherworld filled with blood-red flowers, rather than the traditional rust and fans.

Currently, there is no set release date for Silent Hill f, and no new details were shared about No Code's Silent Hill project, Townfall.
