Sebastian Stan recently opened up about his career challenges before landing the transformative Winter Soldier role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor shared how a $65,000 royalties payment from Hot Tub Time Machine came at a crucial moment before his casting as Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger. Stan played antagonist Blaine in the 2010 sci-fi comedy before joining Chris Evans in the 2011 Marvel film.

"I was actually struggling with work," Stan confessed. "My business manager told me I was saved by that $65,000 residual check from Hot Tub Time Machine."

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed to Vanity Fair that they pursued Stan for the Winter Soldier role despite his relative obscurity at the time.

"You could sense his depth just from his presence," Feige recalled. "I told our producer, 'He'll be a good Bucky, but he'll be an exceptional Winter Soldier.'"

Stan has since reprised his role in multiple MCU films including Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Civil War (2016), various Avengers films, and the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. With his appearance confirmed in Avengers: Doomsday, Bucky Barnes appears poised for an enduring MCU presence.
