In the world of television, it's a well-known fact that nothing beloved stays dead for long. This year has already seen the revival of projects from diverse universes like The Office and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and now, the cherished 2000s hospital sitcom Scrubs is set to make a comeback.

It's been 24 years since Zach Braff first stepped into the shoes of junior doctor JD at Sacred Heart Hospital. Fans will be thrilled to know that Braff has agreed to reprise his iconic role in ABC's upcoming Scrubs reboot. This new iteration promises to blend both new and familiar faces, offering a fresh take on the beloved series.

This isn't the first time ABC has attempted to breathe new life into Scrubs. In its ninth season, the network tried a similar concept, where Braff and other original cast members handed over the reins to a younger ensemble. Unfortunately, this approach didn't resonate with audiences, and the season was cut short after just nine episodes.

Now, almost two decades later, ABC is giving it another go. The original creator of Scrubs, Bill Lawrence, is steering the ship for this revival, which he describes as a "reboot/revival hybrid." With Braff's commitment secured, Entertainment Weekly suggests that other original cast members may soon follow suit.

"We've been talking about it a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo," Lawrence shared with Deadline. "A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it's a calling."
