Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Unveiled: Super Thin Design
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge at its May Unpacked event, showcasing its latest flagship smartphone. This new model, while sharing many similarities with the earlier 2025 Galaxy S25, introduces a thinner design that sets it apart. Dubbed the "Edge" for its sleek profile, the Galaxy S25 Edge promises to redefine what users expect from a top-end smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge closely mirrors the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, boasting the same powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a high-resolution 200MP camera. However, the key differentiator is its chassis, which has been refined to a mere 5.8mm thickness, a significant reduction from the 8.2mm of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This slimmer design also results in a lighter phone, tipping the scales at just 163g.
Despite its slim profile, the Galaxy S25 Edge retains the same impressive 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display found on the Samsung Galaxy S25. This choice of display is intriguing, as it matches the specs of the slightly larger 6.9-inch display on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Given its thin and expansive form factor, durability is a critical consideration for the Galaxy S25 Edge. Samsung claims to have addressed this by incorporating Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, touted to be more robust than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The real test, however, will be its resilience against everyday wear and tear, particularly if it ends up being sat on in a pocket. This raises questions about the potential for a new "bendgate" scenario.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge also inherits the "Mobile AI" tools that debuted with the Samsung Galaxy S24 and were enhanced in 2025. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, these tools enable significant AI processing on the device itself, enhancing privacy. Despite this, many AI applications still depend on cloud computing. Samsung has introduced innovative features like notification and news article summaries, catering to users who appreciate quick, at-a-glance information.
Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are now open, with prices starting at $1,099 for the 256GB model and $1,219 for the 512GB variant. The phone is available in three elegant color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue.
Samsung is keen on convincing consumers of the Galaxy S25 Edge's durability despite its slim design. Time will tell if their claims hold up, but for now, the Galaxy S25 Edge presents an exciting blend of performance and style.
