According to journalist Jason Schreier, the acclaimed Rocksteady Studios is developing a new single-player Batman game. Details are scarce, with no confirmation if it's a prequel, a sequel to the Arkham series, or a completely new story. However, one source suggests it's a Batman Beyond title, set in a futuristic Gotham City, and planned as a trilogy for next-generation consoles.

The Arkham series was celebrated for its stunning visuals, and a futuristic Gotham could be Rocksteady's most impressive yet. The Batman Beyond setting also cleverly addresses the passing of Kevin Conroy in 2022, potentially allowing the spotlight to shift to Terry McGinnis or Damian Wayne, similar to Warner Bros. Montreal's plans for the canceled Arkham Knight sequel.

Rocksteady's previous project, an online shooter, underperformed, leading to the cancellation of post-launch content and a rushed animated conclusion retconning controversial plot points by revealing fallen heroes were clones.

Now, Rocksteady returns to its strengths with a new solo Batman adventure, although insiders suggest it's still several years from release.
