Rockstar Games has acquired Video Games Deluxe, renaming it Rockstar Australia. Video Games Deluxe boasts a history of collaboration with Rockstar, contributing to projects like the 2017 L.A. Noire re-releases and, most recently, crucial upgrades to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for iOS, Android, Netflix, and modern consoles. This acquisition is distinct from the situation involving Grove Street Games, whose involvement with the original trilogy's troubled launch in 2021 led to controversy, including public criticism regarding their removal from the game's credits following a significant update (developed by Video Games Deluxe) that addressed many of the initial issues.

Video Games Deluxe was founded by Brendan McNamara, also the founder of Team Bondi, the studio behind L.A. Noire. Following allegations of challenging working conditions at Team Bondi during L.A. Noire's development in 2011, the studio ultimately closed. McNamara subsequently maintained a lower public profile until this recent announcement.

“It’s been an honor collaborating with Rockstar Games over the past decade,” McNamara shared in a statement accompanying the acquisition news. “We’re excited to officially join Rockstar Games and continue our work creating exceptional gaming experiences.”

The establishment of Rockstar Australia precedes the anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, currently slated for Fall 2025. In December 2023, a former Rockstar developer offered insight into the staggered PC release of GTA VI, urging PC gamers to remain patient and understanding regarding the launch strategy.
