ReFantazio Poised to Join Series Scene
Hashino, when discussing the studio's future plans, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Regarding the possibility of Metaphor: ReFantazio becoming a franchise, Hashino confirmed there are currently no concrete plans for a sequel. His focus remains on successfully completing the current project. He revealed that the game was initially conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, and aims for it to become a flagship title for the company.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, Hashino mentioned the team is already working on their next project. However, an anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is being considered. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, achieving the company's highest concurrent player count to date.
Metaphor: ReFantazio boasts a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available across multiple platforms, including PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
