NetEase's Ananta: A New Name, But the Same Infinite Promise

Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain? It's had a name change! Now officially titled Ananta, this game, first unveiled at Gamescom 2023, has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, feast your eyes on the teaser:

The Mystery of the Name Change

The developers haven't yet explained the rebranding. Interestingly, "Ananta" means "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of "Mugen" (infinite in Japanese). The Chinese title also reinforces this theme.

While the gaming community is divided on the name change, the relief that the project is still alive outweighs the confusion for many.

Comparisons to Neverness to Everness

Ananta's stylish new trailer, however, lacks gameplay footage, leading some to favor Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Neverness to Everness might currently have the gameplay edge, Ananta undeniably boasts a more visually striking aesthetic.

A Curious Social Media Strategy

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, albeit renamed. This unusual move has left many gamers puzzled, as simply renaming existing accounts would have seemed a simpler solution.

Infinite Trigger Awaits
