"First Post-Rise of Skywalker Novel Explores New Star Wars Universe"
The Star Wars universe is set to expand further beyond the events of *The Rise of Skywalker*, and while Shawn Levy's much-anticipated film *Star Wars: Starfighter* is still on the horizon, fans won't have to wait as long to dive into new stories. A new young adult novel titled *Star Wars: The Last Order* will soon provide an exciting glimpse into the aftermath of the 2019 film. Revealed by publisher Penguin Random House, this novel will delve deeper into the lives of John Boyega's beloved hero Finn and Naomi Ackie's resistance ally Jannah, characters introduced in *The Rise of Skywalker*.
The official synopsis from Penguin Random House, penned by author Kwame Mbalia, teases an intriguing plot: “Following the end of *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker*, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order. As Finn and Jannah set out to find the First Order officer responsible before he can endanger any more children, the two former stormtroopers must wrestle with their own complicated pasts as soldiers of the oppressive regime.” This narrative promises to explore not only thrilling action but also the emotional journeys of its protagonists.
*Star Wars: The Last Order* marks the first project to explore the Star Wars universe post-*The Rise of Skywalker*, although it wasn't the first planned endeavor in this timeline. As for Shawn Levy's upcoming film, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy shared insights during a February interview with Deadline, stating, “It’s all post-[the first] nine... Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out.” Enthusiasm for the project remains high, with writer Jonathan Tropper expressing his hopes for a sooner-than-expected release to Screen Rant last month. The film, starring Ryan Gosling, has a confirmed release date of May 28, 2027, announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan.
