Pokémon TCG Pocket Remains Non-Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit in the near future. Dive into the details about Pokémon TCG Pocket's stance on competitive play and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the Pokémon competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, mentioned that while they are always considering new titles for the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate agenda.
Brown humorously referenced the April Fool's parody trailer for the Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament, saying, "Pokemon Sleep is out there too." However, he made it clear that "at this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
While no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released only two sets in its first four months.
Although the app includes competitive features from the start, players have voiced concerns about ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed as a more simplified and beginner-friendly version of the original Pokémon card game, which may not align with the competitive ethos.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to offer a variety of events for fans, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.

Pokémon Presents Could Reveal New Set
The next Pokémon Presents event might unveil a new set for Pokémon TCG Pocket, following the release of the Space Time Smackdown set on January 30, 2025. Although Pokémon has not disclosed the content of the upcoming livestream, fans are buzzing with anticipation for major announcements across the franchise.
Despite the lack of new information since its initial announcement in 2024, excitement remains high for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, expected to launch in 2025. Speculation is rife about potential reveals, including new mega evolutions. The upcoming Pokémon Presents could provide valuable insights into Pokémon's future plans for its various games.
