Pokémon TCG Pocket Dev Gifts Players Trade Tokens But Still Doesn't Have Answers to Fix Controversial Feature
Creatures Inc., the developer of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, has addressed player concerns regarding the recently implemented trading mechanic by gifting players 1,000 Trade Tokens. This is enough for only two substantial trades. The developer continues to investigate solutions to improve the controversial system.
Players logging in will find the tokens in their Gift menu without explanation. However, Creatures Inc. issued a statement on X/Twitter expressing gratitude for player feedback and patience. The developer faced significant criticism last week, with the trading system described as "hilariously toxic," "predatory," and "downright greedy."
The trading feature, already limited by existing in-game mechanics restricting pack openings and Wonder Picking, was further constrained by the Trade Token system. Players heavily criticized the high cost of acquiring these tokens, requiring the deletion of five cards of equal rarity to trade one.

A week after the launch, the negative player response remains significant. Creatures Inc. had previously acknowledged player concerns, stating, "Your concerns are seen," and inviting feedback after launch. This led many to expect improvements, which did not materialize. The developer subsequently admitted that restrictions were hindering casual enjoyment of the trading system.
The company promised to address complaints by offering necessary items as event rewards. However, the Cresselia ex Drop Event (February 3rd) failed to deliver on this promise.
Many believe the trading system is designed to boost revenue for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly generated $200 million in its first month before trading was implemented. This suspicion is fueled by the inability to trade cards of 2-star rarity or higher, a restriction seemingly designed to encourage players to spend money on packs for a chance at obtaining rare cards. One player reported spending approximately $1,500 to complete the first set, highlighting the significant financial investment required. The third set was released last week.
