Niantic has announced the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, starting January 29th, offering players exciting opportunities to catch Lucky Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and earn valuable rewards. Similar to the Fashion Week event, completing Field Research tasks will yield bonus rewards.

Pokémon GO celebrates its ninth anniversary in 2025, and this Lunar New Year event is one of many leading up to the summer and Pokémon GO Fest. It precedes Pokémon GO Tour: Unova (February 21st-23rd in Los Angeles and New Taipei City, global event in March).

The Lunar New Year event runs from January 29th, 10:00 a.m. to February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time. Increased chances for Lucky Pokémon from trades and becoming Lucky Friends are key features. Wild encounters with Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini will be boosted, along with Shiny variants. Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2km Eggs.

• Event Bonuses:
  • Increased Lucky Pokémon chances in trades.
  • Increased chances of becoming Lucky Friends.
  • Increased wild spawns of Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini.
  • Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi hatching from 2km Eggs.
• Rewards: Timed Research, Field Research, and Routes will reward Stardust, XP, Zygarde Cells, and Pokémon encounters.
• Paid Timed Research ($2): Includes two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and additional encounters (Ekans and Nosepass).

Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research, alongside Routes, will offer Stardust, XP, and event Pokémon encounters. Zygarde Cells are obtainable through Routes. A paid Timed Research ($2) provides extra rewards: two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and encounters with Ekans and Nosepass. All rewards must be claimed before February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time.

Players can add their Lunar New Year Pokémon to PokéStop Showcases for additional item bundle rewards. An event-themed Collection Challenge will also grant bonus Stardust for trading, benefiting frequent traders.
