Sony addressed the near-day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing it to an "operational issue" in a social media statement. The company offered no further explanation of the cause or preventative measures.

To compensate PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony will automatically add five extra days to their subscriptions.

Gamers experienced widespread disruptions throughout the outage, with over one-third unable to log in and others reporting server crashes.

The outage highlights concerns from players who object to Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games.

This isn't the first major PSN disruption. A significant data breach in April 2011 resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. While less severe, the recent outage has left many PS5 users dissatisfied with Sony's limited communication.
