Sony has officially announced the discontinuation of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, just under three years after its initial launch.

As of today, new memberships to PlayStation Stars are no longer available. Players who decide to leave the program will not be able to rejoin, and any accumulated reward points will be permanently deleted once membership is canceled.

For current members, there’s still time to participate. You can continue earning points until July 23, 2025, and redeem your remaining point balance up until November 3, 2026.

Even with the program ending, Sony confirmed that Digital Collectibles associated with PlayStation Stars will remain accessible for the foreseeable future. So, if you’ve collected unique items like the 3D Jim Ryan bobblehead, you’ll still be able to view and enjoy them without interruption.

In a statement posted on the PlayStation blog, Grace Chen, vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise at PlayStation, explained the decision: “Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.”

At this time, Sony has not announced a direct replacement for PlayStation Stars, nor has it provided specific details about how the insights gained from the program will shape future initiatives.

PlayStation Stars originally launched in July 2022 as a way to reward PS5 users with points that held real cash value. Points could be earned based on purchases made in the PlayStation Store, as well as through completing various in-game activities, such as trying out new features or participating in surveys.

The program was positioned as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards, though both platforms have since undergone changes that reduced their overall value proposition. Last summer, PlayStation Stars experienced a month-long service outage, followed by a series of adjustments in October. These included shortening the lifespan of earned points from 24 months to 12 months and removing PlayStation Plus subscriptions from being eligible for point accrual.

Now, the entire initiative is set to be phased out entirely.
